Get the most out of your horn! It's simple and durable, so mod it up!
Lets be honest for a moment, the factory remote isn't brilliant. Its great for the anti-theft feature but the remote switch is small and hard to get to while riding sometimes. Well, there is an easy hack you can do to make this easier.
At first, I was removing the internals of the remote and messing around inside. I soon realized it would be a lot easier to just affix a bump to the outer side of the remote. After trying this for the first time, I realized anyone at home can do this.
You need 2 simple things. One is a really good tape, I trust the black Gorilla duct tape for this, and the second is something hard that will sit nicely on the button. To be honest again, I used another of the exact button from another remote just flipped upside down... anything will do
Assemble these parts together and you get something that looks like this:
I use this remote every day. It is linked up to 2 horns and I love it. Try it out!
Note:
Holding the wired switch will result in a sustained sound, like "beeeeeeeeeep"
Holding the remote switch will result in an intermittent sound, like "beep beep beep beep"
Why?... just why? Have you ever listened closely to a horn on a car? Its not one tone, its two. If you want the true illusion of the horn attaching 2 horns to the same remote will do the trick. Its truly great to hear and I may have giggled like a little boy the first time I did it.
This is how you do it.
Grab the second horn that is not yet linked to your main horn & remote. Unscrew the top like a jar lid BUT ensure you do not rotate the metal horn in the middle, just the outer rim. The internal wiring is hooked up to the horn, best not to pull those wires. Gently remove the horn from the top of those housing and rest it or hold it nearby, wires attached, during the next step. Hold & take care of that gasket too.
I'll break this down in steps below but describe it first. There is only 1 button inside the housing on the motherboard. Its a small white button. When you press that button the wired switch will blink red. That indicates the window is open to sync a remote switch. You do this with the lightning bolt button on the remote.
So easily broken down its:
1. Ensure you can see the wired switch (it will blink red and your hands will be busy)
2. Press the button on the motherboard
3. Simultaneously ensure there is a red blink on the wired switch & press the lightning bolt button on your remote
4. Gently reassemble the horn ensuring not to pull on the wires attached to the metal horn. Ensure the rubber gasket is as flush and level as you can get it as you screw on the rim.
4. Test the system to ensure they are linked.
If it did not work, try syncing them again.
To be honest, I think I had to do mine a second time in order to get the sync timing down right.
Note:
Horn doesn't sound right? Carefully adjust the tightness of the screw on rim without moving the metal horn in the middle.
Often times, its how the rubber gasket is sitting between the horn and the housing.
Don't squish the life out of it, just snug it in place.
